The Role
The R Programmer will work closely with the Survey Research Manager and other members of the research team to design and program survey reports. The ideal candidate will be able to take high-level direction about reporting requirements and then create visually compelling reports using R. The holder of this position will receive a considerable degree of independence and the ability to shape the direction of survey reporting at Hanover Research. We expect all employees to be intellectually curious, ambitious, and interested in assuming increasing levels of responsibility. This position will report directly to the Survey Research Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Write R code to clean and reshape data;
  • Produce highly consumable reports using R;
  • Monitor and update R code, as necessary, based on internal and client feedback;
  • Work with other research staff members to design surveys and reports that meet a wide range of client needs.
 
Desired Skills and Attributes
  • Strong command of the R language and common R packages (e.g., dplyr, ggplot);
  • Ability to quickly wrangle data using R across multiple data formats and files;
  • Experience with reporting from R to consumable formats (Shiny, Rmarkdown, PPT);
  • Experience with CSS/HTML;
  • A keen eye for data visualization;
  • Willingness to tackle complex, often unfamiliar programming requests;
  • Desire to take ownership over projects;
  • Ability to work quickly and independently;
  • Ability to accept feedback and constructive critique positively;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Extremely strong and demonstrable work ethic;
  • Proven academic achievement.
 
Education Requirement
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, statistics, or related quantitative field.
 
Experience Requirement
2-3 years of full-time work or graduate research experience using R on applied projects. Some survey research experience is preferred but not required.
